Who sends money from the eurozone to Brazil
Common senders: long-settled diaspora families, seasonal and care workers, students, and people supporting parents back home.
About this corridor
Brazilians in Portugal, Italy, Spain and Ireland send money home mostly to Pix keys. Portugal's large Brazilian community makes EUR→BRL a competitive route, so the gap between a bank transfer and the cheapest specialist service can be substantial.
Worked example: sending 500 EUR
Using the ECB reference rate on 2026-10-07, 1 EUR = 5.5953 BRL, our estimate model gives these results for sending 500 EUR:
| Provider | Est. fee | Est. received | Total cost vs mid-market |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wise | 3.89 EUR | 2,775.86 BRL | 21.79 BRL |
| Revolut | 1.50 EUR | 2,775.31 BRL | 22.34 BRL |
| Remitly | 0.00 EUR | 2,764.08 BRL | 33.57 BRL |
| Western Union | 4.47 EUR | 2,717.17 BRL | 80.48 BRL |
| Bank wire (typical) | 17.89 EUR | 2,630.09 BRL | 167.56 BRL |
In this example Wise delivers roughly 145.77 BRL more than a typical bank wire. Rates move daily and providers change pricing, so treat this as an illustration from our model; the live calculator above and the provider's own quote are what count. See how we estimate.
Sending to Brazil: what to know
- Payout options: Brazilian bank accounts and, on many providers, Pix keys (CPF, phone or email).
- Pix delivery is fast and widely supported; the recipient just shares a Pix key.
- The paying institution will usually need the recipient's CPF.
Rules and limits
In the eurozone: EU payment institutions are regulated under PSD2 and must be authorised in a member state. SEPA makes transfers inside Europe cheap, but payments to China go via SWIFT or a provider's local payout network.
In Brazil: Incoming transfers are foreign-exchange operations handled by institutions authorised by the Banco Central do Brasil. IOF tax applies to the conversion in Brazil (generally 0.38% on incoming personal transfers; check the current rate).
How to pick the cheapest option
- Compare the amount received, not the fee. "Zero fee" offers usually hide their cost in the rate. How markups work.
- Small amounts: watch fixed fees. Large amounts: watch the markup.
- Avoid intermediary deductions. SWIFT wires can lose $10–30 in transit. Why.
