About this corridor
Japan has a large Brazilian community of Japanese descent, concentrated in Aichi, Shizuoka and Gunma. Remittances to Brazil now often go to Pix keys, and comparing registered funds transfer providers with Japanese banks can make a big difference on monthly transfers.
Worked example: sending 100,000 JPY
Using the ECB reference rate on 2026-10-07, 1 JPY = 0.0316 BRL, our estimate model gives these results for sending 100,000 JPY:
| Provider | Est. fee | Est. received | Total cost vs mid-market |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wise | 758 JPY | 3,140.01 BRL | 23.99 BRL |
| Revolut | 300 JPY | 3,138.74 BRL | 25.26 BRL |
| Remitly | 0 JPY | 3,126.03 BRL | 37.97 BRL |
| Western Union | 791 JPY | 3,076.19 BRL | 87.81 BRL |
| Bank wire (typical) | 3,165 JPY | 2,987.28 BRL | 176.72 BRL |
In this example Wise delivers roughly 152.73 BRL more than a typical bank wire. Rates move daily and providers change pricing, so treat this as an illustration from our model; the live calculator above and the provider's own quote are what count. See how we estimate.
Sending to Brazil: what to know
- Payout options: Brazilian bank accounts and, on many providers, Pix keys (CPF, phone or email).
- Pix delivery is fast and widely supported; the recipient just shares a Pix key.
- The paying institution will usually need the recipient's CPF.
Rules and limits
In Japan: Overseas transfers in Japan go through banks or funds transfer service providers registered with the FSA; Type II providers are capped at JPY 1 million per transfer. For overseas transfers above JPY 1 million, financial institutions file a report with the tax office.
In Brazil: Incoming transfers are foreign-exchange operations handled by institutions authorised by the Banco Central do Brasil. IOF tax applies to the conversion in Brazil (generally 0.38% on incoming personal transfers; check the current rate).
How to pick the cheapest option
- Compare the amount received, not the fee. "Zero fee" offers usually hide their cost in the rate. How markups work.
- Small amounts: watch fixed fees. Large amounts: watch the markup.
- Avoid intermediary deductions. SWIFT wires can lose $10–30 in transit. Why.
